1791- Ratification of the Bill of Rights- guarantees
of civil liberties


Marshall Court-  The decisions in
Marbury v. Madison, McCulloch v. Maryland, Gibbons v. Ogden, etc. expanded the
governments Constitutional Powes


Reconstruction- the
ratification of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments- this expanded the rights granted
under the bill of Rights


Warren and Burger Courts- 
Decisions here involving civil rights, the rights of the accused, and the penumbra of
privacy
