Salamanders are typically characterized by their slender
bodies, short noses, four limbs or limbless and long tails. They belong to class amphibia
(can live both on land and in water). They are closely related to frog and
toads
Their moist skin usually makes them reliant on
habitats in or near water, or wetland. Some salamander species are fully aquatic
throughout life, some take to the water intermittently, and some are entirely
terrestrial as adults.
Like other amphibians they are
coldblooded, show metamorphosis from water breathing juvenile form to terrrestrial
air-breathing adult or may retain juvenile characteristics like in most salamanders. They
show cutaneous respiration or respiration through skin, also use gills and sometimes
lungs to respire.Lay eggs in water.
